5/15/2023 0 Comments Phasmophobia nightmare modeTLDR: In this update you can either do meme runs or custom modes that severely disrupt the flow of the game and get a TON of exp and money. I know rewards don't really mean much, but I'm worried that the norm for gameplay is going to shift regardless. There's no way this reward structure is good for the long term health of this game. It now takes a backseat to the meme runs. The current rewards make Nightmare mode, the REAL game, feel like it is just for fun instead. To be clear, I do not disagree with the ability to set these settings and try these insane game modes out. It's more of a gambling and farming game at that point. you're not even playing a ghost hunting / investigation game any more. Once you've set yourself up for 0 sanity, no pill sanity, faster ghosts, no sprinting, etc. Then you can get into even more rewarding settings that mess the game up even more. Sure, we could take that gamble before with the cursed items, but now we can just get it for free without the cursed hunt disadvantage and get rewarded more for it. This also just makes the unique speed ghosts completely void of investigation. ![]() It's no longer an interesting story that happened after some lengthy sleuthing or a funny cursed object interaction. Dying feels like nothing more than a bad roll anymore. It's no longer the scary thing looming over you for most of the investigation. Also, starting the game with no sanity and getting the hunts out of the way first takes all of the dread away. Here's the problem though: The difference between 2 evidence and 0 evidence is very small for most ghosts. really.? For more than twice the reward, all I'm doing is removing the flashlight, removing all evidence, and removing starting sanity. So now that we have Custom Difficulty, have we unlocked a whole new mind-blowing mode of gameplay? Not. There is just one part of it that I am concerned about. ![]() Every update to this game has been amazing, and that includes most of the latest update that released today. It was THE Phasmophobia for skilled veteran players. Unlocking Nightmare was almost like unlocking an almost entirely new game or sequel that really tested your deduction and knowledge. I've always felt that Nightmare difficulty was one of the most amazing things about this game.
